Instructions: Read the sentences below and answer the questions or fill in the spaces
Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars which are located at the back of the mouth. They are the last teeth to grow inside the mouth and they usually appear between the ages 17 and 21. Although most people have four wisdom teeth, there are rare cases where some people grow an extra wisdom tooth known as the supernumerary tooth.
Most wisdom teeth usually are unable to grow normally. As a result, wisdom teeth become stuck under the gum or partially erupt through the gum. Wisdom teeth usually impact on other teeth (called an impacted wisdom tooth) or end up growing at the wrong angle due to the jaw having not enough space to accommodate all the teeth. Impacted wisdom teeth are very common although some wisdom teeth rarely grow normally like any other tooth.
Although some people do not have any problems with impacted wisdom teeth, they can cause problems. Impacted wisdom teeth sometimes trap plaque, food debris and bacteria which slowly lead to dental problems such as bad breath, infection and decay. Sometimes impacted wisdom teeth can cause damage to neighbouring teeth inside the mouth. In rare cases, they can form cysts which can cause the jaw become deformed.
Dental extraction is the best solution to get rid of impacted wisdom teeth before they can cause oral-related problems in the future. A dental extraction is performed by a dental surgeon who is licensed to perform dental surgery on a patient. If the next time, you find a wisdom tooth growing incorrectly inside your mouth, it is best to get it extracted than to keep it.
