The more you read in English the better your writing and your speaking will become. Reading helps you to expand your vocabulary. When you read you are learning new words in context. These will show you:
* how sentences and paragraphs are formed
* new ideas and content to put in your conversations or writing
* new things about Western culture and the culture of English-speaking countries
Read a range of different materials. For example:
* newspapers
* magazines
* journals and articles related to your profession or work
* fiction books
* non-fiction books
* recipes for cooking
* advertisements
* television guides
* computer manuals
* car manuals
* brochures
* notices
* instructions
When you are reading try to guess the meanings of words before you look them up in a dictionary
Do not read everything at the same speed. Some things should be skimmed that is reading quickly for the main ideas that is looked to find particular information by looking for key words.
